On November 5-9, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene held its annual meeting at the Baltimore Convention Center, in Baltimore, MD. The meeting focuses on the fields of tropical medicine, hygiene, and global health, and draws a diverse crowd of students, researchers, and physicians from academia, industry, NGOs, government, and the military. The conference is always well-attended, and this year’s meeting was no exception: it drew over 3400 attendees from 100 countries.

IDM was well represented at the meeting, sending 20 members of the institute from the research, software, and communications teams. IDM attendees presented their research, participated in workshops and pre-conference meetings, and listened to lectures on tropical diseases and the current state of global public health. A member of IDM’s Malaria team was interviewed by Global Health Strategies (so stay tuned for the video!) and IDM’s Sr. Science Writer, Mandy Izzo, blogged about some of her experiences at the conference. See below for her three-part blog on ASTMH 2017.
